◆"Senior Research Fellow", "Research Fellow", and "Research associate" in JICA-RI is equivalent to the level of professor, associate professor, and postdoctoral level, respectively.

(1) Research on economic policies in developing countries through quantitative methods
(2) Related activities for conducting (1).

Full-time (non-tenured): Annual contract extendable up to 4 years depending on successful review.

■ Qualifications

1.All of the items below are mandatory for all applicants:
(1) Acquired a doctoral degree in economics.
(2) Research experience in analyzing economic policies in developing countries through quantitative methods.
(3) Publication in English of research papers in academic journals; experience in presentations at academic societies; excellent English skills for international joint research and policy dialogues.
(4) Applicants must be able to proactively pursue research aligned with JICA-RI's main research areas, and be willing to cooperate with others in interdisciplinary research.
(5)-1 Non-native Japanese speakers: Japanese skills sufficient for daily conversation (e.g. attendance at a meeting).
(5)-2 Non-native English speakers: A TOEIC score of 800 or above, a TOEFL(PBT) score of 574 or above, a TOEFL(CBT)score of 230 or above, a TOEFL(iBT) score of 89 or above is required.


2. Applicants with the following attributes will be given preference:
(1) Research experience or work experience at development assistance organizations or other international organizations.
(2) Experience in presentaions at international conferences.


3. Open to all nationalities, but applicants are required to have a visa status that confers eligibility to work in Japan.



■ Treatment

(1) Remuneration will be in accord with the standard JICA Research Institute payment schedule (i.e., equivalent to a governmental research institution) and based on previous experience, ability, and performance.
Commuting allowance will be provided.
(2) Health and social insurance eligibility is included.

1. Curriculum vitae (with passport-style photo, and including the names and contact addresses of three referees). Please use the attached CV format.(Please attach certificates pertaining to your language skills.)
2. List of research accomplishments.
3. List of academic activities.
4. Short synopsis of research accomplishments.
5. Copies of three major publications (doctoral dissertation can be included).
6. Statement of proposed future research and aspirations.
7. Three references from three academic referees. Please ask the referees to send their reference letters directly to JICA Research Institute by postal mail or by e-mail. Otherwise, please ask for the reference to be returned to you in a signed and sealed envelope. You should then send the sealed envelope directly to JICA Research Institute.
8. Your doctorate and master's degree certificates.

■ Selection

After an initial screening of candidates through examination of application documentation, particular candidates will be contacted by e-mail. Please note that only candidates who successfully pass the initial screening will be contacted for a subsequent interview by e-mail.
At the second stage (interview), the candidates will be required to present their current research. The details will be provided to the candidates who successfully pass the first screening.※We will ask to have a medical checkup for the candidates who successfully pass the second stage.
